Shrimps are crustaceans usually from the decapod group. Being consumed almost all over the world, they are considered as a great addition to diet. They’re a good source of protein, mineral elements such as calcium, selenium, magnesium and very low in carbohydrates, calories and saturated fats.

Some health benefits of shrimp includes;

1. Strengthening of bones and teeth : The presence of high amount of calcium and magnesium are known to strengthen bones and prevent or reduce bone injuries and diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis

2. Improving brain health: Mineral elements such as phosphorus and omega 3 fatty acids present in shrimp

3. Improves heart health: Potassium , magnesium and vitamins present in shrimp often lowers the risk of gaining health problems. Potassium reduces the risk of high blood pressure and keeps the body fluids maintained.

4. Reduces weight gain:The low proportion of saturated fats reduces and maintain weight gain.

5. Reduces the risk of cancer: The presence of antioxidants in shrimp fights off free radicals in the body which prevents the risk or reduces the chance of getting cancer, improves brain cells and muscle tissue. Being an excellent source of vitamin B12 ensures proper functioning of the liver.

However, Shrimps should be eaten moderately at about 200g to 250g per day since excess consumption without care can increase the risk of high cholesterol for people with such defects.
